I love upgrading our client's bathrooms to create the most luxurious and functional bathroom possible for them to enjoy for years to come. We do several total bath gut renovations each year and are always thrilled with the transformations! If you aren’t looking to do a full reno but your bathroom needs a bit of help, here are just a few changes that can do wonders to the space, turning your everyday bathroom into a sanctuary from the outside world.
1. Heated Floors
Dating all the way back to roman bath houses, heated floors have been around for centuries! If you’re considering changing out your floor tiles, installing heated flooring under tiles provides superlative comfort. It’s easier and less expensive than you think! Great for those chilly mornings, the heat from the floors radiates up through the tiles surface to warm your feet and toes while you get dressed and ready for your day. In the evenings, they’ll help you wind down and relax after stepping in or out of your steamy shower or warm bath. An additional bonus: Our furry family members absolutely love heated floors and we have been told that it has a calming effect on them too!
2. Towel Warmers
Wrapping up with a snuggly warm, plush towel after a shower or bath is a wonderfully luxurious way to pamper yourself! There are many beautifully designed towel warmers available to fit whatever style you desire in various sizes and finishes. Everyone needs towel bars in their bathrooms, so why not make it a towel warmer? There are hard-wired or plug-in versions available with or without timers.
3. Steam Showers
One of the best ways to turn your bathroom into your own mini tranquil oasis is to install a steam shower. After a long day, a steam shower can be the perfect way to rejuvenate and relax in a matter of minutes. And let's not forget the health benefits! Steam showers are known to help with detoxification, congestion relief and so much more. We love turning regular showers into spa-like experiences with the addition of a steam unit.
I’m a huge fan of aromatherapy in the bathroom! One of my favorite ways to unwind is to breathe in the soothing aroma of lavender and eucalyptus from essential oils. A simple diffuser will do the trick or a few spritzes while you’re showering is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in a spa-like experience. There are so many incredible oils to choose from in many beneficial scents. Take it one step further and install a shower infuser, we love this by Sprig by Kohler that easily attaches to your shower arm and disperses your selected oil scents automatically during your shower. It will transform your everyday shower in a pampered experience indeed!
5. Marble Tiles
Investing in high-quality floor and wall tiles may be one of the most important decisions when planning your luxury bathroom. If you truly want an upgraded, luxe bathroom, nothing beats the beauty and depth of natural stone. It not only looks stunning and elegant, but with a small amount of care, it will look timeless and classic for decades. Natural stone should always be sealed after installation and every 1-2 years re-sealed depending on how much use it gets. I typically have my marble polished and cleaned also about once every 5 years to maintain its beauty and vibrance. Marble and natural stone tiles come in a vast variety of colors, designs, and finish options so it’s easy to find something that is suited to any style.
6. Crystal Chandeliers
A crystal chandelier will add that pop of glam and luxury and take your bathroom from simple to chic with ease. There is a vast array of modern, traditional, and transitional chandeliers to choose from these days, so you’re bound to find the perfect one to fit your style. Placement is also key. Typically, it should be installed in the center of the bathroom, or over the bathtub as a focal point. Make sure to select the appropriate size to fit your space so that it won’t overwhelm other fixtures in the room. Matching finishes is also key to keeping everything consistent and looking beautiful!
